RUGBY 101: KNOW THE BASICS
PLAYER POSITIONS & GAME FORMATS
15’s Rugby is played by our club in the fall and spring seasons and treated as our “default” mode.
Matches are two 40-minute halves.
Gameplay is generally slower than in 7s and focused on coordination between teammates and running phases.
Players are divided into the “Forward Pack” and the “Back Line” with the forwards focusing on power and crashing the ball in shorter bursts versus the backs who move the ball with longer passes and agility.
7’s Rugby is played by our club in the summer seasons and considered the “off-season”.
Matches tend to be tournament-style with two 5-minute halves and multiple matches played in a single day.
Gameplay is rapid with much more sprinting and longer passes than in 15’s matches. It’s the backs’ game style, but everyone participates.
Summer 7’s tournaments tend to be more social than the official season games.
